Organized by our managing director Jabril Bensedrine, in his capacity as Vice-President of Professional Development of the Haas – Berkeley Alumni Chapter in NYC, this event brought together a high-powered panel at Cornerstone Capital on July 19th.

55 people total (full room) interacted with our host Erika Karp (CEO of Cornerstone, also advisor to the UN Global Compact, member of the World Economic Forum, Advisor to the Clinton Global Initiative; formerly managing director and head of Global Sector Research at UBS Investment Bank); United Nations officers, the Founder of AssetMark ($25 billion in assets)… Triana Group’s role in organizing this panel also included masterful orchestration and moderation by Deborah Stern (Senior Advisor to The Triana Group) and end-to-end support from Valerie Salmon (Junior Analyst, The Triana Group). This panel reflects one of our practice areas, aiming at facilitating the global expansion of innovative solution providers in the sustainability space.

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 ambitious global goals adopted by all member countries of the United Nations. They represent a vision and collective action plan for a better world – from ending severe poverty, to achieving gender equality, and making significant gains in conservation and environmental sustainability by 2030. Catalyzed and led by the United Nations, it requires a true public-private effort.

In this workshop, participants heard from among the world’s institutional, business and financial leaders in this grand undertaking, including from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) — the lead UN agency responsible for partnering with governments, businesses, and individuals around the globe to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As innovation is key to achieving breakthrough solutions for humanity’s vexing challenges, we explored the role of innovation – and approaches to investing in innovation – occurring now in business/financial markets, philanthropy, and social and environmental organizations including the UN.
