Diversification of a High-Performance Computing company

A provider of high-performance computing systems to the defense sector needed to understand user needs in civil markets, to guide its diversification and the development of new products.

We helped source 110 key contacts, resulting in 20 in-depth interviews focused on user needs. Interviews covered user behavior and the need for big-data modeling; key value-drivers; pricing benchmarks; perception of competitive positioning; purchasing decision processes.

We delivered detailed recommendations to guide new product features, pricing and promotion for each civil segment. We arranged CEO introduction to 2 R&D partners that could serve as lead-users and help fine tune new product development. This led to a signed collaboration with one of the partners, which the client valued at “many millions of dollars”.

“We needed a commercial test for one of our solutions. The Triana Group’s methodology was very professional (from target definition to writing the right messages, preparing databases, and the commercial outreach itself). Within 3 months, they reached out to dozens of key accounts nationwide and started many conversations, leading to demos involving our team. In addition, their outreach generated useful insights that informed our strategic decisions. I would strongly recommend them to any company seeking to define or refine its business development strategy.”

Assessment of Revenue Growth Potential for an Industrial Equipment Manufacturer

A private equity fund retained us to assess the growth potential of a highly-specialized midsize industrial company, prior to acquiring it.

We combined quantitative datapoints with in-depth expert interviews and competitive benchmarks. Using data analysis methods, we segmented and projected the company’s markets, revenue, and gross margins by product lines, channels, industries, major customers, and regions.

Our findings quantified the company’s market potential and outlined strategic options to achieve it. Post-transaction, the acquirer retained us to advise an annual marketing program for the acquired company. Once implemented, the program generated an 85% increase of qualified B2B leads in the company’s CRM leading to 46 significant new projects within 6 months. The company exceeded its sales projections within the year.

Conversations With Customers

Last year, I took the helm of a new company and decided to work with The Triana Group because I saw a good alignment with my business development needs.

The process worked smoothly and our experience has been excellent. Their team conducted exploratory meetings on our behalf, following which they excelled at sharing detailed debriefing notes. Their debriefs were so clear and detailed that I could pass them along to my technical colleagues without any further explanation.

Their communication efficiency has accelerated our decision-making process regarding prototype development and market focus.

We have been able to start multiple collaborations thanks to introductions by The Triana Group. We are very happy and as a next step, we would like them to continue to build our pipeline and nurture our relationships in this market.

The Triana Group’s team has quickly grasped our goals and services. They gave us strong and efficient support, helping us plan new marketing documentation for the US market, and organizing interviews with key people in various targeted sectors.

Their interview summaries resulted in very useful recommendations on how to mitigate risks and pursue our market opportunities effectively.

Last, but not least, The Triana Group found us a pilot project in New York City, which meets perfectly our expectations.

Naturally, we intend to continue working with The Triana Group for our next steps.

Diversification of a $2 Billion Manufacturer's Innovation Division in New Materials

The innovation division of a $2 billion textile manufacturer had developed technologies in the new materials space. They were seeking new market opportunities, and guidance for product development as part of a diversification strategy.

We helped select the most promising markets and technologies through 30+ in-depth interviews with product designers, subject-matter experts, buyers, and decision makers; screening 800+ competitors; formalizing findings on a scoring sheet with 529 data points, such as users’ perceived value, market size and market dynamics, barriers to entry, time-to-market.

Findings and recommendations were summarized in a visual heatmap representing the “hottest” new product-market combinations. We also delivered industry snapshots with key figures, competitive dynamics, top segments, key players, buying processes, etc. We were then retained to “deep-dive” in the top-priority market. Our follow-up conversations with interviewees led to collaboration opportunities, which we transitioned to the company’s business development team.
